Actress Zooey Deschanel, best known for her roles in the movie 500 Days of Summer and TV’s New Girl, was celebrating her daughter’s first birthday with a party. She, like many of us, decided to try to earn parent of the year points by making her own special first birthday cake. While she had the right idea by trying to create a smash cake, a hot trend we’ve talked about before here on the blog, the execution fell, well, short.

Deschanel shared her daughter’s first birthday party story on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Well, worry no more. The days of the kids at your child’s birthday party not being able to bust open that colorful character hanging from a string are over thanks to one very “big” celebrity.

David Ortiz, aka Big Papi, of the Boston Red Sox is set to retire after this season and he’s looking for his second career. While many athletes go into broadcasting, coaching or teams’ front offices, the home run hitting machine is looking to do something a little more in his wheelhouse.

Enter Big Papi: Piñata Slayer.

Yes, we know it’s just a really clever ad, but what little boy wouldn’t want a professional athlete to come to their birthday party and help? That’s right, none. So next time you have a perturbing piñata and you happen to know a Major League Baseball player, give him a call. Unless he’s a pitcher, he should be able to get the job done.

The actor who portrays Thor on the big screen played a much more realistic superhero to his soon to be 4-year-old daughter India as he helped avert what surely would have been a major crisis in the young girl’s world. It wasn’t aliens attacking or artificial intelligence threatening the planet. No, Hemsworth had to battle an uncooperative bakery and his own kitchen.

According to the actors Instagram feed, a local bakery told him that they wouldn’t have time to bake a cake for his daughter’s birthday party. So what did he do? He baked a t-rex cake himself.

We’ll give him major points for effort but let’s just say he’s lucky he’s an actor and not a special effects guy by trade. Regardless of how the birthday cake looked, the action was more than sweet and showed that even celebrities understand how valuable and impactful a birthday is in a child’s life. We’re betting little India won’t be forgetting this special day anytime soon.

The moment even moved Helmsworth’s wife, Spanish model and actress Elsa Pataky. She also turned to Instagram to share a photo of the actor in the kitchen getting ready for his kid’s birthday party and a message.
